FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does the E1 work?

The E1 works much like a regular inkjet printer, but with two important differences. First, instead of just 4 primary color ink cartridges, it also includes White and Gloss inks, which allow you to print vibrant colors on dark backgrounds. Secondly, the 'ink' is actually colored resin which hardens immediately using a UV light built into the printhead. This allows the ink to build up in layers, creating a textured surface up to 5mm deep.

2. How do i make stickers?

Making stickers requires the use of two special materials, and the laminator. First you print your images onto the 'A' film, which is a paper sheet that is covered in a film of adhesive. You sticker prints directly onto the glue, and you then cover the whole thing with the 'B' film, which comes on a roll to load into the laminator. the B film attaches lightly to the sticker, and more strongly to the exposed glue everywhere around your sticker.

To use the sticker, you peel the backing paper away, to expose the sticker, and the adhesive that it was printed on to. You can place the sticker directly into its final position, using the B film covering to position it, a d press it down. Then you can peel away the B film, which takes all the excess adhesive with it, leaving just the printed piece, stuck firmly in place.

3. What sort of computer do i need?

The eufyMake Studio software is free, and runs on both Windows and Mac computers, as well as iOS and Android phones. These all allow you to create designs, send files to the E1, monitor progress, and perform maintenance tasks.

4. What Maintenance is needed?

One of the big advantages of the E1 is its advanced automated maintenance system, which helps to keep the mechanism clean and extends its life. You can run cleaning cycles manually if needed, but the machine also has automated flushing and moisturing cycles tha help avoid nozzle clogs. A quick-swap cleaning tank has the necessary cleaning and moisturing fluids, and captures the waste fluids purged during the process.

More details about the cleaning processes and the amounts of ink consumed can be found on eufyMake's website .
5. What does it cost to print?
In addition to the cost of the 'substrate' - the item that you are printing on, the main cost of your print is going to be the cost of the ink used. Prior to sending each print to the printer, eufyMake Studio will give you a breakdown of the ink to be used, in terms of milliliters (ml) of each ink type (ink costs $0.43 per ml) so you can calculate the cost for that print.

The amount, and hence the cost, will depend on the size of the print, and the number of layers of ink used. Typically the amounts of C,M,Y an K inks will be quite small for any given print, as usually just a single layer of those is printed. One or more layers of white can also be used as an underlay when printing on dark surfaces, and gloss is optionally used for a final sealing coat over the print to protect it.

You will often find that you are using more White and Gloss inks, as those two inks are used to build up the textured surface of the print, before applying the colors in the final pass. The higher the depth of the texturing on your print, the more White & Gloss will be used. While the printer is capable of printing up to 5mm of relief texture, you will often find that 1mm or less of relief texture is sufficient for many purposes - saving on print time and ink costs.

You will also need to factor in the cost of the ink used for maintenance and cleaning tasks - the more prints you complete in one batch, the less those overhead ink costs will be, on a per-print basis. There will also be some costs for maintenance parts such replacement cleaning tanks, filters, and scrapers and the

While full kits that include all the types of ink and the cleaning cartridge are available, you can also buy the white and gloss cartridges separately if you find yourself needing more of those particular ones.
